The Zongo community at Asamankese in the West Akim Municipality has expressed gratitude to the municipal assembly for their timely intervention in dredging the main gutter that passed through the community.

The storm drain according to the residents remain their main worry in the area as it serves as the main channel for running water uphill anytime it rained.

They stated that the drain over flows it banks during heavy downpours running into several homes leaving the occupants homeless until it drains off.

The situation worsened when the drain got chocked making it very difficult for water to run through resulting in panic anytime the weather showed signs of rain. It was only when the assembly moved in that they got some relieve.

The community to this end made a passionate appeal to government to continue the concrete drains that was abandoned so many years ago.

Chief Executive of the municipality said the assembly cannot bear the cost of constructing the concrete drains because it is capital intensive but added that government had shown its commitment to have it completed as drawing of the design is currently ongoing at the regional level.

Regional Minister, Victor Smith advised that residents to be proactive to avoid serious damage to their properties and lives especially when they ensure proper environmental conditions prevail in the areas.

He was unhappy about numerous plastic bags among other debris which chocked the water way.
