The Asamankese Lorry Park which has received facelift with the pavement of the entire area has now been opened to the general public.

This follows the commissioning of the facility at a durbar attended by the chiefs, citizens as well as drivers who work at the place.

It brings to end the long ordeal of passengers and drivers who struggle through the mud during the raining season when the place usually get water logged.

Another important addition to the lorry park is a 20-seater storey water closet with urinal which was lacking at the place all these years.

Eastern Regional Minister, Victor Smith who commissioned the facility said it is not enough when the place is not maintained properly like other public structures and is left to deteriorate in a short time. He thus called on them to institute measures to ensure regular maintenance of the place, observing good environmental practices especially with waste disposal which are major constraints in most urban centres.

Osaberima Kwaku Amoah III, chief of Asamankese praised the assembly and government for the project adding that this positive move should be extended to other areas especially the road sector.

According to him, the previous state of the lorry park was a nightmare to the people and the news of it being improved was welcoming.

The Drivers’ Union thanked the assembly and pledged to ensure they render proper account to the assembly in order that their other needs could be addressed.

They called for the erection of sheds to protect drivers and commuters from the hard weather. Currently, all the structures around the lorry park are privately owned by people who use them as stores and shops.

They contended that they are unable to secure property of passengers because there is hardly a place to keep them.
