There is hope for about twenty-seven communities in the West Akim Municipality to be connected to the electricity national grid soon under the rural electrification project.

Chief executive of the district, George Mensah Akpalu assured such communities that he was hopeful before the end of July or early next months work would have commenced in some of those towns and villages and progress to cover all other towns.

He said the district assembly in collaboration with the Energy Ministry, implementers of the programme has done enough work to ensure smooth implementation of the projects in those remaining communities.

The MCE who made the revelation during the commissioning of the new lorry park said the rural electrification project has already benefited fifty-four communities in the West Akim Municipality that have been hooked on to the national grid in the past three and a half years.

This he noted has improved the social and economic lives of the people in those communities.

He said government’s commitment to expanding access to electricity is also informed by its desire to ensure good education with skills in Information and Communication Technology, ICT which led to the distribution of computers to schools in the country.
