GA WEST:District pledges support for police.

The Ga West Municipal assembly has assured the police of continuous support to enable them to live up to the security task in the area.

The Ga West Municipal assembly has assured the police of continuous support to enable them to live up to the security task in the area.

The support, Mr. Ebenezer Nii Armah Tarkie, the Municipal Chief Executive explained that this will be in the provision of logistics and social amenities.

Mr. Tackie gave the assurance at the first meeting of the fourth session of the assembly at Amasaman.

He stated that the provision of security was a shared responsibility and should not be left only to the police and the security services alone.

Although the security situation in the municipality was relatively calm, he said that should not" give room for people especially residents to relax or rest in their quest to fight crime".

The MCE also announced the completion of a police station at Dome-Samperman, saying that the operations of the station will improve police visibility in the municipality.

He urged the assembly members to assist their communities to establish neighbourhood watch committees to support the police in their efforts to combat organised crimes.

Giving the statistics of reported cases between July and September this year, the DCE said 28 robbery, 3,256 theft and 121 threats cases, were recorded with 18 of the cases being offensive conducts.

Seventy-four of the cases were fraud, 108, trepassing, kidnapping, six;illegal sandwinning 32; possession of Indian hemp, three and attempted abortion, one.

On motor accident cases, Mr. Tackie indicated that within the same period, 52 cases were recorded with 31 vehicles seriously damaged, and 10 deaths recorded.

Mr. Tackie also expressed concern about the numerous chieftancy disputes with specific mention of Ayikai Doblo, describing it as volatile and asked the police to monitor the situation to prevent further clashes.
