The Ga West Municipal Assembly in conjunction with its development partner has taken a giant step to address the acute water problems facing residents in the municipality.

Already, five water systems have been installed for five communities including Pokuase, Amasaman, Obeyeyie, Afuaman and Oduman.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Nii Armah Tackie in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com said 90% of funds for the projects came from Water Health with the assembly supporting with the remaining 10%.

The installation at Oduman, the DCE announced has been discovered to have high magnesium content; hence it would soon be closed down to allow for corrective measures to be instituted to address the problem.

Additionally, Mr. Tackie said plans are under way to provide 3 other systems at Medie, Mahean and Mayera-Afiama which will supply about 60,000 gallons of water a day.

The DCE also announced that, the assembly has paid GH¢10,000 to the Ghana Water Company to supply water the people of Ofankor, Amasaman and Pokuase, a project he hopes will commence soon.

With these interventions, the DCE expressed optimism that there will record drastic improvement in potable water supply by 2010.

Residents are also been sensitized on healthy measure of storing water to avoid contaminating treated water in their homes which has been identified as a common occurrence in most instances.
