Member of the Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Professor S.K.B Asante, has stressed the need for members of the Oversight Committees of the APRM to be non-partisan in the performance of their duties.
 
He noted that any partisan approach would divide their ranks and affect their day to day responsibilities.
 
Prof. Asante said this when he inaugurated a 36-member Oversight Committee for Ahafo Ano and South, Atwima Mponua and Atwima Nwabiagya Districts at Nkawie.
 
The committee, made up of chiefs, assembly members, educationists and others, have the responsibilities and functions to deepen the understanding of the APRM to their people and assist them in the monitoring, evaluation and implementation of the concept.
 
They are also to assist the Council to build strategic partnerships at the districts, prepare and submit reports for validation.
 
He said the objectives of the APRM included the acceleration, adoption and implementation of NEPAD priorities and programmes and to share the best practice in respect of good governance and economic development.
 
Prof. Asante said the work of the committee members were sacrificial and therefore asked them also to involve their people in the grassroots in making decisions to ensure broad participation.
 
Dr Francis Appiah, Executive Secretary of the APRM commended the committee members for representing their respective districts and asked them to be transparent and honest in the discharge of their duties.
 
He told them to be objective and that they should also be guided by professionalism.
 
Dr Appiah urged the Assemblies to support the various committees with the necessary logistics to ensure the success of their duties.
 
Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, Mr Thomas Ofori Donkor, said the development of African countries depended on the people to adopt effective and pragmatic approach towards development.
 
Adontenhene of Nyinahin in the Atiwma Mponua District and member of the committee, Nana Atta Agyemang, on behalf of the members pledged to work assiduously to ensure the development of the districts, the country and Africa as a whole.
