A 25-year-old man has been fined GH¢200 (¢2 million) by the Mankranso Magistrate Court for stealing cocoa beans at Biemso Number Two in the Ahafo-Ano South District belonging to his employer.

Wisdom Agbezi pleaded guilty to the charge.

His accomplice John Opoku, a purchasing clerk who allegedly bought the stolen beans, was charged with abatement of crime, pleaded not guilty and was granted a GH¢1,000 (¢10Million) bail to re-appear on January 22 next year.

Police Inspector Abraham Agyei Mensah told the court that on December 7, Agbezi informed his landlord and employer, Mr Kwadwo Amankwa, that he had harvested and dried a bag of cocoa beans.

He said Mr Amankwa detected the theft and confronted Agbezi who admitted the offence and mentioned Opoku as the one who bought the beans.
