Parents should sacrifice for their children's edu—DCE

The District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central Benjamin Kojo Otoo has encouraged parents to endeavor sacrificing towards their Children's Education.

According to the DCE, education was the surest way towards poverty eradication stressing that the best legacy parents could leave for their Children is education.

"There is no doubt that education is the key to Development and it is also the key to poverty eradication in homes and families. As parents, we ought to be proud of sacrificing our resources towards our Children's education. Our parents were able to sacrifice whatever they had to send us to school and that is what has brought us this far," he emphasized.

He stated these when he presented laptops to Seven girls from selected Basic Schools in the District who among the 14 out of 22 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies that took part in the competition with 980 Girls from their various Schools.

According to the DCE, the Girls from Gomoa Central District performed brilliantly with all the seven placing among the first 100 positions.

"It is worthy to note that Two (2) of our Girls Miss Stephanie Esi Minta from Aboso-Benso Model 'C' Basic School and Miss Hickmatu Issifu from Aboso ' A' Basic School placed 10th and 17th positions in the Best 20 category respectively.

He further said this performance has encouraged them to intensify ICT training in the schools of which over 97% of the schools have Computers for effective teaching of ICT.

Mr. Otoo said this will enhance them develop their career in the ICT industry and also make them competitive on the job market.
This is why parents have the responsibility of sacrificing their resources to supplement government effort by ensuring that their children attain height in the educational ladder. He advised the Girls stick to their books and also avoid bad company, adding they ought to attain height in Education.

The Member of Parliament for the area Naana Eyaih said they want more girls to reach where they have gotten to and even go furthermore. You must have a role model in mind and work towards what you want to be in the near future. Be the kind of Girls that would spearhead the development of Gomoa Central District and who your parents would be proud of sacrificing their resources for your education.

She thanked the Gomoa Central District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) especially the Girl Child Coordinator, Madan Gifty Mensah, the Circuit Supervisors, Head teachers, Teachers as well as parents and stakeholders for their collaborative effort which has yielded positive results"

She assured that the needed materials would be given to the Two Girls who would be taking part in the National ICT competition hoping they will come out with flying colours.

Mr. Peter Akyem on behalf of parents praised His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led NPP government for Free SHS, Free Registration of BECE candidates as well as Free end of term examination fees saying this has put monies into their pockets thus empowering them financially.

Miss Stephanie Esi Minta and Miss Hickmatu Issifu by virtue of their positions have qualified for National Competition with juicy awards for winners. Winners will make a holiday trip to the United States of America. I'm sure our girls will come out with flying colours".
