ATEBUBU: Sanja Nanja launches campaign

Contrary to speculations that the incumbent Member of Parliament MP for the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency, Honorable Sanja Nanja cannot campaign within the Atebubu traditional area in the run-up to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December, the MP kick started his campaign at the main lorry park with a mammoth ceremony last Saturday.

It will be recalled that as a result of a stalemate in resolving an impasse between the MP who is also the ruling National Democratic Congress NDC candidate for the impending elections  and the Atebubu traditional council the authorities made some pronouncements which sought to debar honorable Nanja from campaigning within the traditional area.

The launch addressed by party bigwigs like General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Alhaji Collins Dauda saw hundreds of supporters clad in various party paraphernalia amidst drumming, singing and dancing.

Alhaji Collins Dauda who expressed surprise at the turnout given the rift, said the removal of the ex-District Chief Executive Samson Owusu Boateng should not have created any hullabaloo leading to curses since the power to appoint and remove DCEs lies with the President adding that the curses will have no effect.

He said politics is about development and that should be the paramount interest of any well-meaning person in Atebubu. “Nobody can stop any NDC official from visiting Atebubu or banish anybody from the traditional area”. He added.

Mr.  Asiedu Nketia said the constitution of the party is supreme adding that nobody including chiefs can decide on candidates for the NDC.

He attributed the problem between the MP and the traditional authorities to the opposition New Patriotic Party NPP and people he described as ‘moles’ within the NDC.

The General Secretary said one cardinal difference between the NDC and the NPP is that the party does not discriminate and is ready to work with anyone regardless of the person’s ethnic or religious background.

On his part honorable Sanja Nanja who opted not to make any speech compared his situation to the proverbial dog that is given a bad name in order for it to be hanged.

Present were the Brong Ahafo regional chairman of the party Mr. Opoku Atuahene, and members of Parliament from the Pru east and west, Sene east and west, Garu Timpani as well as DCEs from Atebubu-Amantin, Ejura-Sekyedumase, Sene east and Sene west who delivered various messages of solidarity.
