The people who expressed these sentiments when the District Chief Executive for the area, Bismark B. Nkum paid a familiarization tour to the community are in great anticipation for the construction of the mini-habour that government intends to build for community.

Addressing the people, the DCE assured them that government has captured the project in its 2017 budget and they are hopeful that the project will commence before the end of the year.

He indicated that the assembly is still in discussions with the relevant Ministries particularly the Transport Ministry for the actualization of the project.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, Mr. Nkum noted that it is in the interest of government to actualize the construction of the Mini-habour in the area to boost its quest of job creation and poverty reduction.

He said the central region and for that matter Gomoa West has the potential of becoming the fishing hub of the country if the needed facilities are provided, adding that about 5000 to 6000 jobs are assured if the project is actualized.

The DCE noted that a lot of the fishing canoes from the area have relocated to other fishing areas, and it is hoped that they will come back with the construction of the mini habour.

Additionally, he noted, a boom in the fishing will have direct trickling effect on farming since people will have money to purchase food products to ensure farmers also get money from their toils to take care of their families.
