According to him, the assembly is willing to support up to100 girls each year to pursue their education to the highest level.

Mr Asante announced this when addressing a cross section of students at this year’s The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) week celebration at Manso Nkwanta, the district’s capital.

He revealed that the rate at which girls in the districts get pregnant was very high hence the project is aimed at enrolling more girls in various schools to help reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy in the area.

The DCE, who expressed his optimism to promote girl child education in the district, explained that, “if the girls were seriously engaged in their studies there would be no time for them to be engage in activities that will get them pregnant”.

He noted that extra funds have been earmarked from its share of the common funds to ensure that purpose.

The General Manager of the Amansie West Rural Bank, Mr. Mills Opoku Bosteng said the theme for the year’s NASPA was to educate the girl child on sex since it was at its peak in the district.

He appealed to parents to educate their female children on this delicate issue. He advised that parents should teach their young girls to abstain from sex until they are married.

Mr. Mills added that the Amansie West Rural Bank will continued to fulfill its social responsibility to offer scholarships to brilliant but needy students to further their education  to the highest level because that will help not only help the individual to become a better person but will help the community and the district at large.

On his part, the president of Amansie West NASPA, Mr. Stephen Mireku, said the district choose “Sex Education” as its theme for the year due to the high rate at which girls in the district get pregnant.

He said the report from the District Health Directorate indicates that that in the year 715, 643 and 692 got pregnant in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

He indicated that the numbers kept increasing and that the parents must also play a role to help curb the situation.
