MCE engages Koforidua market women

The Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben South, Mr. Isaac Appaw-Gyasi together with other technocrats held a meeting with traders from the various markets within the municipality to deliberate on pertinent issues that will aid the development of Koforidua and its environs.

Some issues discussed include Assembly’s revenue renewal of Assembly’s Tenancy Agreement, strategies for decongestion within the Municipality among others.

The purpose of the meeting was on Revenue generation and the reconstruction of the Koforidua central market which is a great concern to the Assembly.

Mr. Appaw-Gyasi first commended the traders for their immense support towards the development of the Assembly. He continued by elaborating why there is the need for them to pay their respective taxes to the Assembly.

He said a country will be develop by means of embarking on its fiscal policies such as; using a mechanism in the tax regulations and spending, “Koforidua will be one of the attracted and modernized cities in Ghana in subsequent times”. He promised.

The MCE indicated that the leadership of His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo is poised to make Ghana a safe place to leave therefore, those of us working under him has to ensure to make his vision a reality by undertaking legacy projects which will be of remembrance to next future generations, hence called for their support.


By these legacy projects, Mr. Appaw-Gyasi took the opportunity to mention some completed and ongoing projects under his watch within the municipality; among them are the ongoing Nsukwao basin drain project, 80 lockable stores at Zongo, an ongoing ultra-modern office complex at the premise of the Municipal Assembly and many more projects.

He also promised them a reconstruction of the two major markets being; the central and Juaben Serwaah markets respectively. He further advised them to continue to rally behind the Assembly for development.

He mentioned that, the Assembly is yet to deploy personnel’s to all stores and houses within the municipality to collect data of every occupant for the Assembly.

Mr. Appaw-Gyasi cautioned traders who sell their wares on pavements and principal streets to move back so as to ease human and vehicular traffic within the Municipality.

On his part, the Municipal Finance Office, Felix Kwakye Qainoo emphasized that some decisions have been taken by management to regulate the Tenancy Agreement between the Assembly and occupants of the Assembly properties.

“Gone were the days where those occupying the Assembly’ properties took them as their bona-fide property by subletting the shops to other persons without informing the Assembly officially usually create a lot of problems. Following these unpass, the Assembly deemed it fit to register all tenants occupying the Assembly shops and are to renew their tenancy agreement in every two years, to enable the Assembly have accurate data of all occupants” he explained.
