Minister applaud Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Mad. Hajia Alima Mahama Pays A visit to Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region.

The Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng and the Coordinating Director Mrs. Ruth Woode welcomed and introduced the Minister to the general staff of the assembly.

The Minister took the opportunity to congratulate the Assembly for being ranked third on the District League Table II (DLT) 2019 and also commended the staff for their hard work which has helped to achieve this feat.

She also went on to empower the assembly to improve its revenue generation capabilities through the collection of property rates. She however cautioned that the assembly does not spend more on the revenue collection than they are able to generate since it is not sustainable. She went on to acknowledge difficulty in totally eradicating the leakages in the system, however motivated the assemblies to come up with creative ways that will help reduce it to the barest minimum.

She further spoke about legislation in parliament pending approval for the citizens to vote for their own MMDCE’s moving away from the current standard of the President appointing them into office.

The Minister went ahead to answer some questions asked by the staff and also made a promise to help the assembly to register and secure its land to prevent people from encroaching on it.
