JUABEN: NCCE schools public on corruption

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) of the Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, has sensitized the people on corruption and the role citizens ought to play in the fight against corruption in Ghana.

The forum, which was aimed at tackling corruption cases that has eaten deep into the fabric of the Ghanaian public was held at Nyanpopraso, a village near Juaben.

Speaking at the programme was Mr. Kofi Amoakohene, a retired NCCE Director who said, the fight against corruption in Ghana is a share responsibility of both the government and the citizenry.

He disclosed to the gathering on government several efforts to fight against corruption in Ghana termed ‘The Whistle Blowing Act and Anti-Corruption Strategy’’ to protect billions of cedis which have gone down the drain and a few individuals have enriched themselves with public funds would to be a thing of the past.

Public office holders and political actors are seen as the worst culprits. He stated

He entreated the chiefs and the participants to contribute their quota in fighting against corruption.

He further charged the chiefs and religious leaders to refrain from defending politicians and public servants with their positions in the society to save them from prosecution in case of corruption suspected related issues against them.

The said, they should rather allow the law to take its own course to deal culprits so as to serve as a deterrent to others.

This he said, would go a long way to reduce corruption drastically in Ghana, if such advice is put in practices.

On his part, Nana Ntiamoah Bonsu I, the chief of Nyanpopraso who was the chair person for the function commended the government for his effort in the fight against corruption in Ghana, typical example is the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to handle corruption related cases upon assumption of power and thanked the NCCE staff for such a laudable community encounter.

Participants were fully engaged the officials during the open session and had their submissions and concerns addressed accordingly.
