Kwahu West’s Peasant Farmers Struggle as Climate and Land Loss Bite
Date Created : 4/22/2026 12:00:00 AM : Story Author : Mary Ayertey/Ghanadistricts.com
For many farmers, agriculture remains the main source of income and food. However, their heavy dependence on erratic rainfall makes farming increasingly uncertain, with poor rains often leading to low yields and financial hardship.
The situation is further worsened by the gradual loss of farmlands, which continues to reduce the space available for cultivation. This double burden is affecting food production, household incomes, and overall economic stability within farming communities.
Observers warn that without timely intervention, these challenges could deepen poverty levels and impact food security across the Municipality.
There are increasing calls for support systems such as irrigation, climate-resilient farming practices, and land protection measures to help farmers cope with the changing conditions.
As pressure mounts, stakeholders are urging action to protect the livelihoods of farmers and sustain agricultural productivity in the Kwahu West Municipality.
