The event, which was held under the theme: “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development.” Brought together farmers from various agricultural fields to be celebrated for their hard work.

Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Yaw Owusu Addo, said though farming was not an easy venture; it remained the vocation with prospects for the youth. He commended the hardworking farmers in the Municipality for their decision to feed the nation.

According to Mr. Addo, the potential areas of investment include the increased production and process of ginger, rice, vegetables, cocoa, plantain, and roots and tubers as well as poultry, small and large ruminants.

He added that, “I wish to also encourage businessmen and women, especially Kwahus, both at home and abroad, to partner the Municipal Assembly to invest in the agricultural production, processing and making in order to help create more employment to improve the livelihood of the youth, farmers and citizens in the Municipality as a way of reducing poverty and ensuring food security.”

The Municipal Agric. Director, Mr. Francis Dogbese, said the agriculture sector is a devil with a lot of challenges including erratic rainfall distribution, inadequate and poor mechanization farming, no use of updates of farming technologies, use of low yielding and crop varieties, inadequate of agriculture credits, high abuse of agrochemicals, insufficient agriculture technical office’s, high post-harvest losses, indiscriminate bush fires.

The results of these are overwhelming; we end up losing our agriculture produce because we are unable to manage harvest properly.

He, therefore, calls on farmers to take advantage of the availability of the lands in the municipality and adopt the shifting system to improve production.

The Municipal best farmer thanked the organizers of the event for recognizing his effort and pledge to work even harder in the years ahead. He advised the youth to take an interest in farming since it comes with a lot of benefits.
