The bridge project gained national attention after a viral video showed schoolchildren using a tree branch to cross the river, raising concerns about their safety and the challenges residents encounter in accessing essential services.

The situation prompted President John Dramani Mahama to direct the relevant authorities to assess the situation and take steps towards addressing the problem.

According to reports published by Graphic Online on June 20, 2025, cost estimates for the proposed bridge were being reviewed by the Ministry of Roads as part of preparations towards the project.

The construction of the bridge is expected to improve transportation, enhance safety and provide a more reliable crossing for pupils, traders, farmers and other residents who depend on the route for their daily activities.

The project is also expected to ease the movement of people and goods, improve access to educational facilities and reduce the risks associated with crossing the river, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Residents have long faced difficulties with the crossing, making the proposed bridge an important infrastructure need for the community.

The assurance by the MP has raised hopes among residents that the long-standing challenge will be addressed and that a permanent solution will improve connectivity and support socio-economic activities in the area.
