C GONJA: Assembly holds community engagement with chiefs and people of Kusawgu

The Central Gonja District Assembly (CGDA) held a community engagement with the Chief and people of Kusawgu Traditional Area at Kusawgu Community Center.

The District Chief Executive, Mustapha Mahama outlined Government policies and interventions, his achievements, vision and answered questions bordering on the accelerated development of the District.

The meeting, which is the second of its kind to be held by the assembly, was attended by the Chief and people of Kusawgu Traditional Area, members of the Assembly, The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Daniel Kanyage, Director of Health Services, Daniel Dubik, Director of Agric, Mr. Issah Losina, Head of Department of planning, Community Development, Sanitation, Nadmo, physical planning, YEA and their officials.

Among the topics discussed were Planting for Food and Jobs, Education, Health, employment generation, water and sanitation and peace and security.

AGRICULTURE
Mr Mustapha Mahama said with the planting for food and Jobs programs 30,000 bags of NPK, 3000 bags of urea, 18000 bags of sulphate of Ammonia, 3500 bags of Maize seeds, 3000 bags of Rice seeds, fore Army Worm pesticides comprising of 600 cartons of Agoo and 227 Cartons of Parko were supplied to 4650 farmers, made up for 4302 males and 348 females.

“Even though, you are still harvesting, I know will we will have a bumper harvest despite the heavy floods that swept away many farm lands long the White Volta coupled with the torrential rains”

Under the planting For Export and Rural Development, the DCE said the Assembly supplied 80000 seedling of cashew to farmer and plans are underway to nurse 280,000 more seedling to be distributed to farmers. He encourage farmers to take advantage of the opportunity to create wealth for themselves and families'.



EDUCATION
In the Area of Education, Hon. Mustapha Mahama said the Assembly has renovated the Jabalpei, Wamborg, Kigbripei, Mpaha, Gbrigi D/A primary Schools which were rift off by rain storms, a three classroom block is also under construction at Mpaha T.I JHS.

The Assembly has also completed the Buipe SHS Girls Dormitory project initiated by the School PTA, Constructed a mechanized borehole for same school.

We have also established a Girl Model Junior High School at Buipe. “We have acquired 1000 dual desk and in the next few days, they will be distributed to schools through GES to help solve the furniture problem be delving many Schools”

Hon. Mustapha also took time to explain the double track system and the Free SHS program, he has about 99% of the 999 JHS students who sat for the BECE have gained admission into senior High Schools and the second track will be starting their track on 8th November, 2018.
He also said Government has increase the capitation grant of pupils at Basic School level, absorbed the registration fee of BECE candidates in 2018 and beyond, All these are aimed at bringing the Education to the doorsteps on every Ghanaian especially the rural areas the poor.

JOBS
Hon. Mustapha Mahama further stated that Government was on course to solving the unemployment issues in the country, He mentioned the introduction of the Nation Builders Corp which has recruited 350 graduates from within District, “their institutional placement will done by close of next week for them to begin work”

About 100 people within the district were also employed in March this year into Ghana Education Service as teaching and non-teaching staff and another set to recruit by the end of the month.

We have made 85 employment at the Forestry, 30 Community protection personnel under Youth Employment Agency.

SECURITY
The DCE also called for a concerted efforts between Government, the Chiefs and people of Central Gonja in tackling the security situation of the District.

He said, security is shared responsibility and the people should report people with questionable behaviour to the police. “As Chairman of District Security Committee, I and the security Agencies are ready to fight all forms of crime in our society but we can not do it without your support”

Hon. Mustapha Mahama also used the opportunity to call on the people to come in their numbers to Vote YES on Dec 27th, for the proposed Savannah Region cataloguing the advantages of the creation of the new administrative Region.

The paramount chief of Kusawgu Traditional Area, Kusawguwura Sulemana Ewuntomah Kunkaraga I, thanked the DCE, management and staff of the Assembly for their dedicated service to the people of Central Gonja. He called for collaboration between the Assembly and the traditional Rulers, “My doors are always open for you and the Assembly for dialog to better the lots of my people”.

He also urge Government and the VRA Resettlement fund to pay compensations due the traditional Council to enable the council argument the work of central Government and Assembly in providing Basic infrastructure for the people of his Traditional Area.

He also called for split of Central Gonja with the Capital of the New Assembly at Yapei. “Kusawgu Traditional area alone with 52 polling Stations and 13 Electoral Area is more than qualified to be a District”.

Various heads of department then took turns to answer questions from the general public.
