The initiative was led by the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Charles Asiedu, together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, in fulfillment of a long-standing promise made to residents during a General Assembly meeting to address safety concerns raised by community members.
In a brief but impressive address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, commended Hon. Charles Asiedu for fulfilling his promise and for championing development within the municipality. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the President’s 24-hour economy policy, which aims to boost economic activities at night while enhancing security and deterring criminal activities.
Hon. Frimpong urged Assembly Members to take responsibility for the streetlights, noting that they are now the primary point of contact for lighting issues within their respective communities. He added that while the Assembly is taking steps to establish a task force to oversee the installation of the streetlights, community members should also play an active role in the installation process.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Frimpong thanked the Member of Parliament for his dedication and called on him to spearhead more projects to accelerate the municipality’s development.
Delivering the keynote address, the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Charles Asiedu, acknowledged the concerns of residents, noting that many had expressed frustration over delays in access to electricity and felt neglected. He reassured the gathering that the delay was not due to neglect but rather part of a strategic plan to ensure stability and the fair distribution of resources.
Hon. Asiedu disclosed that a total of 410 street bulbs are being distributed, with each Assembly Member receiving 10 bulbs. He further explained that although the quantity may not be sufficient, efforts are underway to expand coverage. He highlighted that electoral areas that previously lacked electricity are now being connected to the national grid and mentioned that progress has been made in areas such as Bechem, Techimantia, and Derma, where electricity expansion projects are nearing completion.
Hon. Charles Asiedu emphasized that the project is a collaborative effort and thanked the Assembly Members for their patience and coordination on the ground. He urged residents to remain hopeful, stating that the “darkness” they had experienced was coming to an end and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to illuminating every corner of the municipality to support local businesses and improve the quality of life.
He concluded with an assurance that more social interventions and infrastructure projects are in the pipeline, reiterating his dedication to serving the people and ensuring that the municipality receives its fair share of national development. He called for continued unity and support from traditional leaders and the youth to ensure the successful completion of all ongoing projects within the municipality.
The Krotihene of Techimantia, Nana Ampong Kromantang III, thanked Hon. Charles Asiedu and the Municipal Chief Executive for addressing the electricity needs of Tano South. He reminded leaders that their primary mandate is to serve the people and deliver development projects in order to maintain public trust.
Nana Ampong Kromantang III further cautioned against the misappropriation of project materials, reiterating that the collective growth of Tano South depends on the honesty and dedication of its leaders. He emphasized the need for regular reporting and accountability, stating that transparent management of current resources would pave the way for future development projects.
Mr. Appiah Joe, the Assembly Member for the Atekyem Electoral Area, also expressed appreciation to Hon. Asiedu and Hon. Frimpong for their support in enhancing local infrastructure.
He noted that inadequate lighting has remained a persistent challenge affecting the safety and security of residents, adding that the distributed materials would significantly improve visibility within the interior sections of various electoral areas, thereby reducing some of the security concerns previously faced by the communities.
While expressing his gratitude, Mr. Appiah Joe also pointed out that the Atekyem area is rapidly expanding, creating a continuous and growing demand for additional resources. He appealed for more assistance in the future to ensure that all parts of the community are adequately served and called for continued collaboration between the Assembly and the municipal leadership.
