This event, part of activities leading up to the Ketu South NaSPA Awards and Dinner celebration on October 25, 2024, at the Customs Officers' Mess, Aflao Border, aimed to foster unity and calm any tensions ahead of the upcoming polls.

The walk dubbed “Walk for Peace” drew participants from various national service personnel, security officers, and members of political parties particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress including Mr. Wisdom Samuel Doe Haligah, NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu South and Mr. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South.

Saturday’s walk which started from Denu Junction through the streets to 2nd Lowcost Beach, Aflao sensitised the public on the importance of maintaining peace before, during and after the December 7 elections through inscriptions on placards.

Some of the inscriptions of the placard read: “Electoral Violence Has No Place in Body Politics,” and “If You Dislike Peace, Watch Happenings in Ukraine, Middle East and Sudan.”

Mr. Charles Epiphany Ativor, Ketu South NASPA President in an interview felt some sense of fulfillment for having organised such an event saying, it was important for peace to win in Ghana.

He said: “The Walk for Peace was to send a strong message to Ghanaian politicians that we’re not ready to compromise on the peace we’re enjoying. We at NaSPA believe that peace is at the apex of our desires. I’m happy about the turnout and wish the motherland well on December 7.

The first NaSPA President in the Municipality to organise something of this nature? I’m absolutely proud of myself, our partners TWIN MG Empire and fellow national service personnel.”

Mr. Mathew Amadi-Adorsu, co-founder of Twin MG Empire, an organisation with focus on supporting the underprivileged in society explained the walk aligned with their vision to ensure peace, thus, the partnership.

He expressed satisfaction in the event saying, they wanted one peaceful Ghana before, during, and after the elections believing that a powerful message of harmony to the nation and the nations of the world through the march was successfully sent to the public.

Some participants spoke to praise the NaSPA’s initiative, emphasising its timeliness and relevance as the country approached the crucial elections in December.

Mr. Bernard Awuku, a participant said: “My participation in this walk is my commitment to a peaceful Ghana. This walk is a reminder that the country’s peace is more important than any political affiliation.”
