REGSEC beef-up security at highways over robberies in Bono
The Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has beefed up security at the highways, setting up police posts at vantage points and noted robberies hotspots and also patrolling regularly on the roads to check and reduce spade of highways robberies which is now becoming a menace of recent times.

An armed robbery attack at Atronie, a suburd of Sunyani on Friday, June 13, 2025 on the Sunyani-Goaso highway claimed the life of a diver, who was shot and killed in front of passengers for refusing to comply with the robbers’ orders—sparks fresh concerns over rising insecurity on the highway, causing fear and panic among residents, commuters and farmers alike.
Bono Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa Esq. with the REGSEC members on Tuesday June 24, 2025 visited some of the robberies’ hotspot areas of the highways in the region to assess measures put in place and to instill confidence, hope and to assure them freedom of movement was guaranteed.
At Atronie, the Regional Minister held a meeting with the Chief and some community members and assured them of total security form the REGSEC. At the meeting Mr. Addae Akwaboa said seven (7) police posts has seen set up between Atuahenekrom to Atonie and more police patrol has also been intensified to maintain tight security on the highway.
He added that plans are far advanced for hiding cameras to be fixed at vantage points and hotspots areas identified by the security along the highways for the security services to monitor armed robberies.
The Minister noted that poor mobile network contributed to the people’s inability to report to the security in time for quick response or action.
To that effect, he said he was in talks with the mobile network operators to extend and expand their services to the areas noted to be robbery hotspots.
He further said sign posts with police picture and police contacts will be positioned at vantage points for easy access for the people to call and quickly report any robbery incident to the police.
On the deplorable nature of the road, the Regional Minister assured the people that Government has captured the road for construction and work will beginning next year.
Nana Kwabena Gyan the Nifahene of Atronie thanks the minister on his effort in fighting the armed robbery menace. He appealed to the Minister to prioritize the construction of the road to make the fight of armed robbery easy and successful as well as boost their local economy.
