GACC Engages School Children in Nzema Area on Corruption, Integrity

The Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition (GACC) has intensified its campaign to promote integrity, accountability and ethical leadership among young people in the Nzema East Municipality and Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

As part of the initiative, the coalition organised a youth engagement programme dubbed “The Youth Voice”, which brought together students and pupils to discuss corruption, integrity and the role of young people in promoting accountable societies.

The programme, held as part of activities to commemorate the 2026 African Anti-Corruption Day, was organised on the theme, “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti Corruption Actions Across Africa.” It was implemented in collaboration with the GACC Local Accountability Networks (LANets) in Nzema East and Ellembelle, as well as the United Civil Society Organisations for National Development (UCSOND).

The students were encouraged to make integrity part of their everyday lives and recognise their responsibility in building a society where corruption is rejected and accountability is upheld.

In the Ellembelle District, similar engagements were held for pupils of Basake Agyalu Kronzu D/A Junior High School and Nana Akye Blay D/A Junior High School at Menzezor.

The pupils were educated on the meaning of corruption and some common practices, including examination malpractice, bribery and favouritism. They were also introduced to practical ways of promoting honesty and accountability in their schools and communities.

Facilitators further introduced participants to GACC's 3Rs approach, Resist, Reject and Report, as a practical means of confronting corrupt practices. The students and pupils were also sensitised on whistleblower protection mechanisms and the appropriate institutions and channels through which suspected acts of corruption could be reported.

The engagements provided the young participants with an opportunity to share their experiences ask questions and discuss how corruption affects their schools, families and communities.

Several participants pledged to become integrity ambassadors by promoting honesty, discouraging examination malpractice and encouraging their colleagues to uphold ethical values.

The GACC Local Accountability Networks in Nzema East and Ellembelle reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Coalition to nurture a generation of young people capable of championing transparency, accountability and ethical leadership.

The 2026 African Anti Corruption Day activities were supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation as part of GACC's nationwide campaign to strengthen the promotion of integrity and the fight against corruption.
