Presenting the 2026 Sessional Address, District Chief Executive Hon. Mahama Fuseini described agriculture as the backbone of the local economy and reaffirmed government's commitment to transforming the sector through strategic investments.
As part of the ongoing farming season support programme, the district has received 2,500 bags of NPK fertilizer and 300 bags of Urea fertilizer, which are currently being distributed to eligible farmers to enhance crop productivity and strengthen food security.
The DCE further announced that two irrigation sites at Sheri and Junto have been earmarked under the Irrigation for Wealth Creation Programme to support year-round farming and increase agricultural output.
In addition, plans are underway to establish an Agricultural Mechanization Centre at Fufuso to improve farmers' access to modern farming equipment and services.
Hon. Fuseini also revealed that Central Gonja will benefit from the government's Akoko Nkitinkiti Programme, implemented in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), under which approximately 25,000 poultry birds will be distributed to selected beneficiaries.
According to the DCE, the intervention is expected to promote household poultry production, improve nutrition, create employment opportunities, and increase incomes, particularly among women and youth.
He expressed optimism that the ongoing investments in agriculture will position Central Gonja as a major contributor to food production and economic growth within the Savannah Region.
