The support package included cash grants and start-up equipment designed to help recipients launch or expand their own businesses.
In his address, the Municipal Desk Officer for PWDs, Eric Kwabena Bediako, emphasized that the office’s role extends beyond distributing funds.
"Our mandate is to advocate for your wellbeing and protect you from all forms of abuse and sabotage in your endeavors," he stated. He encouraged beneficiaries to develop personal visions, pursue education or skills training, and use the support to build sustainable livelihoods. "Do not limit yourselves. Disability is not inability," he added.
The Municipal Coordinating Director, Samuel Badu Baiden, urged the beneficiaries to maintain a positive mindset and set clear goals.
"The Assembly is here to support your aspirations," he said. He strongly cautioned against selling the provided equipment, stressing that the items are an investment from the government meant for productive use and tangible results.
MCE Hon. Jerryne Asante reinforced the message, advising recipients to channel both the cash and equipment into income-generating activities to achieve financial independence.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that the increased share of the District Assemblies Common Fund for PWDs—raised from 3% to 5%—is utilized effectively for their benefit.
Maxwell W.K. Agyako, Chairperson of the Municipal Federation of PWDs, expressed gratitude for the increase in the Common Fund allocation, acknowledging it as a significant step forward.
