Mr. Ulysses Hammond Director of safety at VRA during a consultative meeting with stakeholders explained that the relocation is in the right direction to help stabilize power in the middle belt since demand for power in Kumasi has increased over the years coupled with the distance in the generation point which presents some challenges when power is been transmitted by GRIDCO.
He further stated that though it is a government of Ghana project, the meeting forms part of environmental impact assessment regulation procedure (EIARP) in which every project developer engages relevant stakeholders and project affected persons to solicit their inputs into the project in ensuring that the project is sustainable.
The Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Abraham Antwi stated that the relocation of Ameri power plant will boost electricity supply and that would be a major achievement aimed at improving the energy sector.
He pledged his support to the project by ensuring that the Assembly provides the necessary permit for the smooth commencement of the project.
Mr. Antwi however, appealed to authorities in charge to permit the displaced farmers harvest their crops before the project commences as a form of compensation to losing farming on the land.
The project when completed will help create employment both direct and indirect and improve power supply to both commercial and domestic users in the greater Kumasi.
