ASUTIFI N: DCE calls on media to support efforts for a successful referendum
The media in the Asutifi North District in the Ahafo Region has been called upon to vigorously campaign and sensitize the public to massively vote in favour of the upcoming referendum.

The District Chief Executive, Anthony Mensah speaking at the ‘Meet the Press’ series in the district appealed to the media to campaign toward a massive turnout and a "YES" vote in the upcoming referendum that will put the power of selecting local government leaders (Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives - MMDCEs) in the hands of the citizenry.
"Section 40 of the Local Governance Act, 2016, Act 936 enjoins MMDA's to involve residents and other stakeholders in the District in the development process of the Assembly", he said.
The referendum scheduled for December 17, 2019 will decide whether Article 55(3) of the 1992 Constitution will be amended or not, whether District level election will be partisan by presenting candidates to canvass for votes.
The Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku Bobie who was present at the programme heaped praises on Anthony Mensah for his good and exemplary leadership.
The "Meet the Press" which was organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the District Assembly also provided suitable platform for the DCE to highlight some of the achievements during the three years period of the administration.
He revealed that a number of infrastructure projects have been completed, with a couple of them also under construction. Among them include;
• 3-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Gambia No. 2 Islamic;
• 1No. 8-unit Court House;
• Teachers’ quarters at Obengkrom;
• Renovation of 1No.3-unit classroom block, and construction of 1No. classroom block at Ntotroso Methodist Primary School,
• 1No. 3-unit classroom block, office, store and computer laboratory at Kwakurikrom,
• 1No. 2-unit classroom block at Barima Kyereku Ampem JHS,
• 1No. 2-unit KG & Nursery block at T.I Ahmadiyya School at Kenyasi No.2,
• Supply of 100 dual desks for Kenyasi;
• 1No. 2-unit KG & Nursery block at Biaso,
• Procurement of 600 dual desks for the District Assembly,
• Construction of single-story 3-unit classroom block with office, store, 4-unit KVIP toilet, 2 urinals and change room at Tawiakrom.
• Construction of 68 capacity General Ward, Theatre, Maternity Labour Ward, Construction of 1No. 2 Bedroom semi-detached staff quarters and Construction of Children's Ward all completed for the proposed District Hospital.
• Construction of 1No. rural technology facility, Earthworks, leveling and rehabilitation of 3No. Market Stalls, Pavement of Kenyasi Lorry Park, rehabilitation of butchers house, electrification, drains and construction of 4No. Sheds, Completion of 1No. Senior staff bungalow for Prisons Service and repair of streetlights at Prison Camp.
The rest are;
• Procurement of assorted working tools/equipment for Persons with Disability,
• 1No. 4-unit, 2 Bedroom Staff Quarters,
• 4-seater KVIP with urinal at Barima Twereku Ampem School, Manuel dislodging and rehabilitation of 6No. Public Toilet,
• Construction of 20-seater Aqua Privy Toilet Block at Kensere,
• Construction of 1No. 20-seater Aqua Privy Toilet facility at Kenyasi No.1 Zongo,
• Construction of 1 No. 20-seater Aqua Privy Toilet Facility and Dislodgement and rehabilitation of 4 No. Public Latrines.
• Construction of overhead Tank for Administration Block of the District Assembly,
• Rehabilitation of 14 No. Boreholes at Goatifi,
• Construction of 4 No. Telephone Mast at Agravi, Kojo Nkrumah, Kwakurikrom and Wamahinso and many more projects which are completed.
Some ongoing projects include construction of a 4km road in Kenyasi No. 1 and 2, Ntotroso, Atronie and Gyedu. Construction of accommodation at Kenyasi for District Hospital workers.
He stressed on the Assembly's plan to use the "One million dollars per constituency" for the construction of feeder roads in the district.
