Chief applauds Akufo Addo for creating new MMDAs
The Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Tetreete Okuamoah Sekyim II, has appealed to the government to initiate policies, programmes and industrialization mechanisms to help speed up development in the area and the country as a whole.

The Paramount Chief was speaking at an inaugural ceremony to welcome the elevation of the Wassa Amenfi East District into the status of Municipality.
It would be recalled that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sometime last year, sanctioned the creation of 38 new Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts bringing the number of MMDAs in the country from 216 to 254. Some existing districts were also elevated into a municipality.
The move, according to the President, was aimed at strengthening decentralisation in his governance in order to achieve growth.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Tetreete Okuamoah Sekyim II lauded the President for creating the new MMDAs, which according to him is the engine to help foster development in the area.
He pledged their support for the government and the President for that matter to enable him deliver on his numerous promises.
The Chief also seized the opportunity to call on government to establish a Commercial bank in the area to enhance economic and financial wellbeing of the people.
He explained that the establishment of commercial bank will not only reduce burdens imposed on rural banks in the area but also create employment avenues for the youth in the municipality.
Also speaking on behalf of the President, the Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwaku Afriyie assured the Chiefs and people of Amenfi that, the President was very much committed to fulfilling his numerous promises to help better the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian citizenry.
He thus asked the people to forgo the past but rather concentrate on the present and portray an exemplary lifestyle to uplift an image that befit a municipality status.
Meanwhile, the ceremony was graced by other dignitaries including the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Hon. Patrick Kwame Bogyarko Saime, Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs Helena Ama Appiah, the Municipal Police Commander, Supt. Bright Boafo, former District Chief Executives (DCEs), various Departmental Heads and Assembly Members.
