We need urgent classrooms and better roads to meet 21st-century standards’ – Management of Atebubu College of Education
Management of Atebubu College of Education in the Bono East Region has issued an urgent appeal for new classroom blocks and repairs to the school’s deteriorating internal roads, warning that the current state of facilities falls far short of 21st-century learning standards.

The college’s board of directors, led by Principal Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng, said the institution is ready to partner with students, alumni, local government, community stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and other educational institutions to find solutions.
But leaders stress that immediate action is needed on critical infrastructure.
Heartbreaking’ disruptions to learning

In interviews with Ghanadistricts.com, Vice Principal Dr. Daniel Ashong detailed a range of challenges affecting daily academic life, including:
* Classroom decay – Many classroom buildings are over 60 years old and in severe states of disrepair.
* Water shortages – The college faces acute water supply issues, with malfunctioning systems forcing some parts of campus to rely on unsafe water sources.
* Poor internal roads – Deteriorated road networks become nearly impassable during the rainy season, creating a difficult and sometimes inaccessible learning environment.

Dr. Ashong described the situation as a “heartbreaking” disruption to learning, noting that some institutions under similar strain have had to manage broken-down structures and inadequate sanitation.
Quality of teacher training at risk
These deficiencies are directly undermining the quality of teacher preparation, college leaders said.
“When classrooms are in poor condition, learning outcomes are severely affected,” Dr. Ashong added.
An appeal for intervention

The management of Atebubu College of Education is repeatedly calling on the national government, the Bono East Regional Minister, the Atebubu Amantin Municipal Chief Executive, NGOs, stakeholders, and traditional chiefs across the Bono East corridor to step in.
Their request: upgrade, renovate, and construct new facilities that meet 21st-century standards before the situation worsens.
