BANDA: 237 farmers engaged under Planting for Food and Jobs
The roll out of one of government’s agriculture flagship programme “Planting for Food and Jobs” in the Banda District in the Brong Ahanfo Region has engaged some 237 farmers, according to the District Chief Executive, Mary Konneh.

The beneficiaries cultivate crops including maize, pepper and tomatoes.
As a feature of the programme, the farmers received assistance by way of inputs among others.
She said the assembly received Maize 128 bags of maize, and distributed 62 bags, left with 66 bags, NPK – 2070 bags was received, 766 bags distributed, left with 1304 bags; Urea – 880 bags received, 358 bags distributed left with 522 bags; and Ammonia 267 bags received, none distributed.
She also stated that the Assembly is currently constructing a wooden structure across the road in front of the Agric office to store the remaining fertilizer for use during the next farming season. “This has become necessary because where they are currently kept is an uncompleted building and there is pressure for the relocation of the fertilizer for construction works to resume”, she added.
She urged the youth to take the advantage of the policy to actively engage in something productive adding that conscious efforts must be made to sure the policy achieve results of providing employment and increasing food production.
“...the need to pay much attention to the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme which is government’s flagship policy to bring fame to the farming folk and create employment in the agricultural value chain”.
She also expressed delight that the intervention by the Ministry of Agriculture during the invasion of the fall army warm has saved 129 hectares of affected farms in the district.
