DCE says government's intervention should not go to waste

The Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has called on parents, teachers and pupils to ensure that the government’s interventions in delivery of quality education do not go waste.

He said for the interventions to yield good results teachers, pupils, parents and education directorates must work hard.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said it was unpardonable for schools to be scoring zero percent in Basic Education Certificate Examination despite government’s heavy investment in education.

He said this when inaugurating two new buildings for Gomoa Mprumem Methodist Primary and Junior High schools.

The six-unit block was provided by the Ghana Education Trust Fund at a cost of GH¢ 135, 529.79 for the JHS and the six-unit block for the Primary was funded by the Urban Poverty Reduction Project at a cost of GH¢ 74, 820.49.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said it was the hope of the government to see all JHS students passing the BECE with good aggregates to qualify them for entry into Senior High Schools.

He appealed to all stakeholders to make this dream of the government to become a reality.

Mrs Augusta Akyaa Sarpong, the District Director of Education, said the Directorate had decided to step up supervision of schools to make teachers and pupils live up to expectation.

Nana Afedzi Bentum V, Chief of the town, commended the government for providing the buildings that would improve education in the town.

Mr Albert Eshun, the Headmaster, appealed to the Assembly to connect electricity to the blocks to enable the pupils to use computers and also library books for the school’s library.
