ASUOGYAMAN: Adomi International River Festival officially launched

Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman District said the Assembly in partnership with Apprise Music and Media is organising Ghana’s maiden International River Festival in the Asuogyaman District from the 7th to 10th August 2019.

It is aimed to promote the Volta Lake as an investment opportunity for potential investors in areas such as fish farming, vegetable farming, hospitality industry, water front resorts, and water sports among others.

He further stated that International River Festival seeks to promote water sports tourism in the country and it will include regatta, water biking, jet skiing, swimming and diving competitions.

The DCE also remarked that there will also be indigenous food and arts fair, music, drama, traditional dance, display of culture from the chiefs and people of Akwamu and candle light procession to bring excitement to both the locals and visitors.

The DCE who was speaking at the launch of the Adomi International River Festival at the Royal Senchi Hotel in Atimpoku on July 18th, 2019 also said the Volta Lake offers great untapped opportunities, hence, the initiative to promote the Lake and improve tourism drive.



He said the Assembly and Apprise Music and Media envisaged that Ghana will have a new tourism drive which will attract tourists in the month of August 2019 and beyond as the event becomes an annual one.

The DCE said it was refreshing to note that both Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) have already factored the festival in the national tourism calendar and demonstrated enough goodwill for the event.

He urged the people of Asuogyaman to support this venture in whatever role they can, when they are called upon.
Finally Hon. Samuel Kwame Agyekum thanked the Royal Senchi Hotel and other sponsors for sponsoring the media launch.

Mr. Paul Asare Ansah former Director General for Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, the guest of honour, said that some forward thinking people who had the concept of tourism had made it possible for the launch happen.



He said tourism is driven by the beauty of nature and the creativity of the mind and that it was good the two has merged to make the festival happen.

He further suggested to the organisers that cable cars can also be part of the festival in future, where tourists can sight see.

He spoke about the port being created in Asuogyaman which will also enhance tourism. Paul Asare Ansah finally wished the collaborators and planners the best of luck in the project.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III Paramount Chief of the Akwamu Traditional Area,who was the chairman for the occasion, thanked the organisers especially Apprise Music and Media for initiating such a project in Asuogyaman.



He said the festival had come at the right time as the Government has declared this year as the Year of Return.

He said it was appropriate for them to tell their own story and have fun by so doing. He urged the people of Asuogyaman to put their maximum best into it.

He mentioned other heritage sites such as the Akwamu Gorge that is rich history of the Akwamu people.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III in closing his remarks, pledged that the enactment of the story of Akwamuman will also be added to the activities for the festival.
