SCDA inaugurates 5th Assembly

The Sekyere Central District Assembly inaugurated its 5th Assembly which saw the swearing into office of newly elected Assembly Members and Government Appointees in accordance with Article 35 Clause 6(d) of the 1992 Constitution.

Her Honour Winnie Amoatey-Owusu, the Circuit Court Judge officiated the administering of the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy to officially induct the Assembly Members into office to commence their four year tenure of office.

The occasion was graced by Madam Felicia Dapaah, Chief Director of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) who was also the representative of His Excellency the President of the Republic.

In her address, she admonished Assembly Members to ensure a good working relationship with all stakeholders of the local governance structure which includes the leadership and staff of the Assembly, Members of their Town and Area councils and Traditional Authorities of their Local areas.

She further admonished them to ensure devotion to duty, a very accountable stewardship and above all, their ability to articulate the needs of the people to guide the district development agenda and ultimately, improve the quality of their livelihoods and wellbeing.

The occasion also witnessed the presence of other high profile dignitaries like the Ashanti Regional Police Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Representatives of the Judiciary, Nananom, Heads of Departments and DISEC of the Assembly, Officials of the Electoral Commission, Members of the Clergy, Political Party representatives, the Media, Members of the General Public amongst others.

The occasion which also marked the inaugural meeting of the 5th Assembly witnessed the Swearing into Office of Mr. Boakye Boateng Lawrence who won a majority vote of 37 out of the 40 valid votes cast to become the next Presiding Member of the Assembly

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Benjamin Kingsley Koduah in his address congratulated all Members on their successful induction into office and called on them to portray the image of servant leaders in the discharge of their duties and to fulfill the mandate for which their electorates have placed their political trust into their hands.

He assured them of the Assembly's continuous collaboration with them in ensuring the realization of the development agenda of the District and its people and also made a passionate appeal to Nananom to make a conscious effort to include Assembly Members of their traditional areas and make them active participants in social development plans of their communities.
