ASDA, SWN sign pact to construct water facility for Noberkaw

Asunafo South District Assembly (ASDA), has signed an agreement with Safe Water Network (SWN), a non-profit organisation, for the construction of Home Water station at Noberkaw, in the Ahafo Region.

The project, aimed at increasing access to basic water and sanitation services in the district, is expected to be extended to Anwiam and Abuom communities. Scheduled to be completed in 12 months, the project would operate under Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) module, at the estimated cost of USD100, 000.

Mr Frank Aduse Poku, the Asunafo South District Chief Executive (DCE), briefing the Ghanaian Times at Kukuom, after the short ceremony said the landmark project was heartwarming and timely to the residents of the area.

He noted that the assembly, as part of its commitment to the agreement, would pay 15 per cent of the project cost totalling USD15, 000. The DCE indicated that easy access to quality water in the district would help in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) six, which was formulated by the United Nations (UN).

Mr Aduse Poku stated that his outfit was poised to expand water access in the Asunafo South District for socio-economic development. He expressed gratitude to Safe Water Network for partnering the ASDA to provide potable water to residents of the area adding, “Posterity will forever be grateful to your contribution.”

Mr Charles Boakye Nimako, the Ghana-Country Director, Safe Water Network, said water was a fundamental human right and that his outfit was solving the global water crisis through innovation and collaboration.

“It was the mission of SWN to reach out to millions in underserved communities by developing affordable, equitable solutions and accelerate access by providing technical assistance and sec¬tor-wide collaboration,” he noted.

The Country Director was optimistic that the agreement with ASDA would deepen their partnership with government agencies and other stakeholders in the country.

Mr Nimako said since 2009, SWN had led the growth of safe water-enterprises in Ghana through collaboration with agencies, development partners among other stakeholders to develop and replicate sustainable solutions to the supply of safe water.
