MCE distributes coconut seedlings to 19 farmers

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi, Mr. Elijah Adansi-Bonah, has distributed 1,000 coconut seedlings to 19 registered farmers in the Municipality.

The distribution, according to him, forms part of the government's flagship programme, ‘Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD)’ which was borne to help provide raw materials for the local industries in the Municipality.

The MCE, who was speaking at a short presentation ceremony, said the Assembly was encouraged by the enormous impact the PERD programme has had on Agriculture business in the country.


He therefore encouraged the farmers who are the first batch of beneficiaries to protect their farms.

He revealed that LEAPAP, an Obuasi based company has been assisted to put in an Oil Processing Factory in Obuasi whiles a Citrus Processing factory has been completed at Adaase in Obuasi.



He also noted that the government is investing heavily in its planting for food and jobs as well as planting for rural export and rural development flagship programmes to help encourage the youth in Agriculture and help eradicate poverty in the rural communities.



The MCE appealed to the farmers to follow all the directives given by the agric extension officers to ensure the proper growth of the seedlings in their various farms.
