Atiwa inaugurates Fall Army Worms taskforce

The Atiwa District Assembly in the Eastern Region has inaugurated a 9 - member taskforce committee to spearhead and manage Fall Army Worm infestation in the district.

The taskforce which has the District Coordinating Director, Mrs. Stella Owusu- Aduomi, as its chairperson was tasked to explore strategies, coordinate and implement policies to fight the outbreak in the district.

District Chief Executive for Atiwa, Mr. Kwabena Panin Nkasah, at the inaugural ceremony admonished the committee to commit their body and soul to the task and marshall all the needed resources to fight the worms, since according to him their continuous spread could  jeopardize the government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” policy.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Aaron S. Dankwa, who was also a member, briefing the committee said about 150acre farms have been invaded and destroyed in the district.  

He said his outfit had taken delivery of chemicals and his officers were on the ground to control the spread of the worm and urged other members of the taskforce to educate farmers on how to prevent the worm from attacking other farms in the area.

The rest of the members were, the District Information Officer, Mr. Patrick Ayeh Bekoe, the District NADMO Officer, Mrs. Julliet Dorcas Anim, Mr. Bempong Offori-Atta, from Zoomlion, Mr. Samuel K. Dzisah, from MOFA, Mr. George Gyarteng, farmer, Mrs. Margaret Kyeyewaa, farmer and Eunice Quarcoo, from the National Service Secretariat.
