Mr Dzisah speaking on behalf of the District Agriculture Officer, Mr. Aaron Darkwah, indicated that those in charge of the policy will have to tighten some of the loose ends to make the policy effective and efficient.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com about the policy in the Atiwa District, Mr. Drissah stated that like many other districts in the country, the planting for food and job programme was successfully rolled out in the district, adding that currently three major crops are under cultivation in the district namely; maize, rice and pepper; with 231 acres of maize, 17 acres of pepper and 20 acres of rice.

He underscored the need for government to endeavour to carry out viability test of seeds supplied to farmers to be sure they don't run into loss as this may discourage them from keeping faith with the programme.

He disclosed that the farmers in the district encountered such unfortunate situation at the major season particular with rice recording only about 10 percent success in seeds viability; however the success rate with the Wang-dataa maize variety was massive. Again maize seeds for the minor season were also found not good enough to achieve good result.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive, Kwabena Panin Nkansah at the third session of the fourth assembly meeting disclosed that government has fulfilled its side of supplying inputs towards the success of the planting for food and job programme in the district.

The inputs included 40 bags of maize, 38 bags of rice, 1000g of pepper, 667 bags of NPK, and 333 bags of urea.

The inputs, he noted, have been duly distributed to farmers under the programme. The DCE however, appealed to Assembly Members to impress upon beneficiary farmers in their electoral areas who have not received the inputs yet, to go to the agricultural directorate to pick them to ensure successful implementation programme.
