LaMMA holds 2nd Ordinary Meeting

The La Nkwatanang- Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) has held its 2nd Ordinary Meeting for 2020.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jennifer Dede Adjabeng (Mrs) in her Sessional Address indicated that the provision of a conducive learning environment with enhanced access to quality healthcare and education especially for children and the vulnerable remains a key priority to the Assembly.

She disclosed that the Assembly under her leadership has rolled out various interventions to ensure the realisation of this agenda.

The MCE reported that following the partial easing of restrictions on closure of schools by the President of Ghana, various initiatives have been jointly implemented with support from relevant stakeholders to pave way for the partial re-opening of Schools.

She hinted that a total of 354 Veronica buckets and bowls, 6,332 hand sanitizers, 708 packs of tissue, 240 Thermometer Guns, 708 gallons of liquid soap, and 18,697 washable and re-usable facemasks have been supplied to both private and public schools.

Touching on healthcare delivery, she commended health workers in the Municipality and the Country as a whole for the invaluable services rendered in the wake of the COVID-19.

Besides, the efforts in fighting the COVID-19, the MCE announced that the Municipal Health Directorate has adopted a number of strategies to reduce the incidence of malaria which remains the first on the list of conditions reported most at the health facilities.

On Revenue, Mrs. Adjabeng the performance of functions of the Assembly as outlined in the Local Government Act, 2016, Act 936 hinges on the Assembly’s ability to mobilise revenue. She announced that took that the Assembly cash-flow for the first half 2020 took a nosedive as a result of COVID-19 and its associated restrictions.

The MCE added that the Assembly was able to mobilize an amount of One Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty Nine Ghana Cedis, Seventy-Four Pesewas (GHC 1,905,169.74) as internally generated funds representing 32.18% of the total budget.

She disclosed that as a result of the negative impact of COVID -19 on businesses, a number of hitherto flourishing companies and businesses have written to the Assembly for a reduction in rates as well as exemptions from payment of rates for this year.

He stated that as part of measures to neutralize the adverse effects of the Corona Virus, the MCE announced steps being taken by the Assembly to improve revenue performance among which include the provision of logistics for revenue mobilization, expansion of the tax net and intensification of supervision and monitoring of revenue collectors to minimize revenue leakages.

Present at the meeting were Heads of Departments/Units of the Assembly as well as the media and members of the public.
