The DCE who feared activities of mining in the district was endangering the future of the youth particularly the girls as they indulge in social vices forcing a sizeable number of them to abandon schooling said it is in hope of turning the situation for good that the assembly decided to establish the Anyinam District Assembly Girls Model School at the junior high school level to ensure that those who transition from primary six can move to that school for special attention.

Established in 2019, the DCE said one of the steps to motivate the students has to do with engaging special teachers and using females that are in academia and other fields of study to join once in a while to educate them with the hope that it will motivate them to want to be like them.

Additionally, the environment is such that it is motivating because the structure looks nice and tidy while facilities like library and others have also been provided to boost their studies.

He expressed delight that since the establishment of the girl school they have achieved so much, coming first in the district Maths and Science quiz, emerged as the first Entrepreneurial school organized by Blue Sky Company Limited and also worn award as the best school during the National Farmers Day celebration last year.

The DCE also commended the PTA for embracing the idea and for their cooperation in trying to sustain the vision and promote the wellbeing of the girl-child.

He said about five acre land has been acquired with the hope of expanding the school to even include secondary school to ensure smooth transition from the junior high level to the senior high level.

The headmistress of the school Mercy Obisibia Asare said so far so good but pointed out that like any other school there are few challenges particularly with enrollment as they currently do not have a primary school that feeds the JHS and hopes that could be addressed.

She appealed to NGOs and philanthropists to assist the school with computers and books.
