We will fix your roads: Kpone-Katamanso MCE to Saki residents

Mr. Solomon Tettey Appiah, Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly Chief Executive, has assured residents of Saki, a local community, that their deteriorated roads will be repaired soon.

The MCE was addressing a town hall meeting organised by the Chief of Saki, Nii Emmanuel Tetteh Oglie II, as part of activities to commemorate the fifth anniversary on his enthronement.

Mr. Appiah responding to questions from residents on the poor state of the roads within the municipality, stated that, government had advanced plans to fix all the roads within the area.

He noted that, the Assembly would need about four million Ghana cedis to fix all the roads in the Municipality.

According to him, the previous administration failed to pay the contractor who was working on the roads before the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) came to power in 2017.

He added that, government through the Municipal Assembly had completed auditing the various roads awarded by the previous government.

He added that government could not abrogate the contract with the Brazilian firm Quairoz Galvao which was supposed to work on the roads within the municipality adding that "they are coming back to work on the roads".

The Municipal Chief Executive further explained that the previous administration did not pay the contractor and that was a challenge the NPP government was faced with as far as the Michel Camp Calypso road was concerned.

Mr. Noble Atsu Ahadzie, KKMA budget analyst, responding to a threat by residents to boycott the payment of their property rates to the Assembly, said the Municipal Assembly could not embark on developmental projects if residents refused to pay their mandatory rates.

According to him, KKMA was lenient with the residents adding that residents were enjoying 50 per cent discount on the rates indicating that those who were billed GH¢200.00 paid only GH¢100.00.

Nii Tetteh Oglie II, Chief of Saki, expressed gratitude to the residents for honouring his invitation and called on the residents to assist the MCE and the Assembly to bring development to the various communities in the municipality.

Nii Oglie advised the residents to pay their rates to the Assembly, and called on the authorities to facilitate development within the communities for residents to appreciate the need to pay their rates.

Over 500 residents from Saki, Bediako, Golf city, Golf Estate, Community 25, and Calypso within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality thronged the Power Centre Assemblies of God Church in Saki for the town hall meeting.
