Community visit by the Municipal Chief Executive at Ankasa Electoral Area

As part of deepening the decentralization process by enhancing grassroot participation and involvement in the decision-making process, the Municipal Chief Executive of Kpone- Katamanso Municipal Assembly; Honorable Solomon T. Appiah together with some key staff and Assembly members on 25th March, 2021 embarked on a community visit to New York in the Ankasa electoral area. The purpose of the visit was to interact face to face with residents and address concerns bothering on their development.

The Assembly member for the area, Hon Carl Sedziafa in his opening remarks, thanked inhabitants of the Ankasa electoral area for attending the meeting in their numbers. He encouraged them to be law abiding citizens and always assist in their own small way to develop the area.

The Presiding member; Honorable Joseph Gbeze for his part used the opportunity to educate residents on the core functions of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC). He entreated all present to write to the PRCC about issues bothering them in their communities for a peaceful solution instead of quarrelling among themselves.

The Municipal Chief Executive; Honorable Appiah talked about sanitation, street lighting, boundary dispute, security, flooding, poor road networks, among others.

Sanitation, he observed, was a major issue that needed urgent attention in the entire Municipality, particularly indiscriminate disposal of refuse.

Honorable Appiah advised inhabitants to allow Zoom lion and other waste service providers to collect their waste instead of dumping it at unauthorized places. He said the health of residents will be in danger if sanitation problems are not tackled properly.

Commenting on the security issues of the area, Honorable Appiah disclosed that the Assembly has purchased some street lights and will soon commence a street lighting project in all electoral areas across the municipality.

On roads, the Municipal Chief Executive revealed that negotiations are underway to construct a 20km from Atadeka to Zenu. Hon. Appiah noted that most people have built on drains and waterways in the Ankansa electoral area. According to the MCE, the drainage system is so bad that it causes flooding each time it rains. The essence of such engagement is to involve residents to take good decisions that will prevent people from building on drains to prevent flooding and keep our environment clean.

Hon. Appiah again disclosed at the meeting that a modern market and lorry station will soon be constructed in the electoral area. He advised all and sundry to desist from building their houses on unauthorized places since such buildings will soon be demolished and the affected persons will not be compensated.

Issues bothering on the boundary disputes between KKMA and other Assemblies were also discussed extensively.

Residents asked questions about some of the issues touched on by the MCE and also gave suggestions on how the numerous problems in the electoral area can be tackled.

Dignitaries who attended the community engagement program included chiefs, opinion leaders, Landlords Association executives, Zonal Council executives, religious leaders and party-faithful.
