1,449 candidates sit for BECE in Tano South District

A total of 1,449 candidates from 47 schools took part in this year’s Basic Education Examination (BECE) in the Tano South district of the Brong Ahafo region.

Out of the total number, 785 were boys whiles the remaining 563 are girls from both public and private schools.

District Director of Education, Rev. Robert Opoku made this known when he, together with the District Chief Executive (DCE) and Member of Parliament (MP) for the area visited some examination centres across the district.

In his interaction with candidates, the DCE, Mr. Collins Takyi offinam encouraged them to write the examination without any form of fear and panic. According to him, questions were only going to be asked from what they had already learnt in class. 

He urged the candidate to eschew any form of exam malpractices since it is such practices that may lead to the cancellation of their results.

The DCE also promised the Assembly’s preparedness to help raise the standard of education in the District by providing infrastructure and other facility needed to improve education.

On his part MP for the area, Hon. Yeboah Sekyere additionally advised the candidates to be time conscious and obey rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examination. 

He noted the government is putting in measures to ensure the implementation of the Free Senior High School Programme which takes off in September, 2017 and emphasized that the programme when implemented would go a long way to relief parents of their financial burden. 

District Director of Education, Rev. Robert Opoku used the opportunity to appeal to the MP to institute a best teacher award scheme to serve as means of motivation for teachers in the area to work extra hard to raise the standard of education in the district.
