The District Chief Executive (DCE) Peter Dongi has announced that the district will soon have its first-ever National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office

This marks a major step forward since the district’s establishment in 2012.

Currently, residents face considerable challenges, as they must travel to the neighboring Tain District to register or renew their NHIS cards. The journey is particularly difficult for those in Banda’s remote communities, often requiring overnight stays outside their homes to complete the process.

To address this, the District Assembly, in partnership with Banda’s Member of Parliament, Ahmed Ibrahim, is converting a building originally intended for the police directorate into a dedicated NHIS office. This initiative aims to significantly ease the burden on residents.

The DCE also emphasized the need for a district hospital, recognizing the existing difficulties in accessing quality healthcare. Efforts are underway, in collaboration with the MP, to secure a government hospital for Banda within President John Dramani Mahama’s term.

In the meantime, the Assembly is actively strengthening primary healthcare. This includes constructing additional Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and plans to upgrade the existing health center into a polyclinic.

Mr. Dongi noted that two recently commissioned CHPS compounds were legacy projects initiated by the previous administration and completed by the current government, reflecting President Mahama’s commitment to finishing unfinished projects nationwide.
