La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly fetes socially disadvantaged persons

The La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) has held a feast for the inmates of Echoing Hills, a home for Persons With Disability (PWDs) and Special Needs at Madina in Accra.

The assembly also presented various foodstuffs and ingredients including rice, oil, palm nut, cassava, plantain, tomatoes, pepper, fruits of all kinds, biscuits, and drinks among others to the home.

The inmates were treated to all kinds of sumptuous rice meals, banku and tilapia, and assorted drinks amid relishing and dancing to melodious contemporary songs.

The event which is held twice a year during Easter and Christmas was organized for inmates of the home to enjoy their share of the Easter Festivity to erase any misconception of being neglected by society.

The Municipal Chief Executive Madam Jennifer Dede Adjabeng said the assembly has done this as a moral and social responsibility to bring some joy to the inmates.

She said the gesture by the assembly will not be the last time as it would continue to build a closer relationship with the inmates to make them feel loved.

She advised the inmates to always thank God for their lives and to trust God in all their endeavours, saying that with the right mental attitude some of them can do great things in the future because with God all things are possible.

The Father of the home, Rev. Lawrence Lamina said it was encouraging to see yet another intervention from the assembly to support the PWDs, adding that the home has to some extent, been neglected by society.

He said when such gestures are shown by people in authority, it encourages other public-spirited individuals to emulate the example.

He urged other public bodies, corporate organizations, institutions, well-meaning Ghanaians to follow such examples to help lessen the burden of the inmates and for them to know that social care about their welfare.

The school prefect of the home, Mama Yaa Akoto appealed to the President of Ghana to pay them a visit to make them feel part of society.

Other dignitaries present include the Municipal Director, Heads of Department and other staff of the assembly.
