Newmont Goldcorp donates to residents of Oseiwusukrom

Newmont Goldcorp has donated relief items to residents of Oseiwusukrom after a recent flood in their community.

Items including 24 mattresses, 12 bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil and a sum of three thousand nine hundred and sixty (3,960) cedis were presented on Thursday, 20th August at the Asutifi North District Assembly premises.

According to Mr. Samuel Ocran, a senior Community Relations officer with Newmont Ahafo who donated the items, the action was in response to an appeal made to them by the residents.

District Chief Executive of Asutifi North District Assembly, Anthony Mensah receiving the items on behalf of the residents expressed appreciation to the action.

Assembly member for the area, Ibrahim Issifu who expressed gratitude for the gesture was also of the view that the company must do more to help the residents since the flood was a result of their activities in the area.

“They have been living there for over fifteen years and this has never happened before. This sudden change of environment is as a direct result of mining activities in the area by the company. We hope they resettle these families in the next two years as promised,” Hon. Issifu explained.
