In an election that saw the only contender eventually stepped down, the incumbent, Mr Botchway pulled 34 “Yes” votes to secure his mandate.

It will be recalled that the first voting on the PM position which was held on Thursday, 31st March had the incumbent PM securing 28 votes as against 22 obtained by the opponent.

The second voting had to be conducted the same day of which Mr. Botchway had 30 as against the opponent’s 20; as such none of them secured the required two-thirds of the votes to claim the ultimate.

The third election for the position ended in stalemates on April 11th with the two candidates securing 25 votes each.

However, the fourth election on Friday, 5th August, saw the only challenger to step down in order to pave the way for the incumbent to go unopposed.

In his victory speech, the elected Presiding Member thanked the general assembly for the trust and confidence reposed in him for the second time and called for unity to develop the Municipality.

He further appealed to members to give him the necessary support during his second tenure of office.

Presenting his sessional address immediately after the endorsement of Mr. Botchway, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Isaac Appaw-Gyasi lauded the house for their effort in electing somebody to occupy the Presiding Member’s position.

He reiterated the call for unity among the assembly members and management to ensure rapid development in the municipality.

“Let us all think about the development of our municipality first before any other things in order not to be judged by posterity” he warned.
