Infrastructure boost for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Health College

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Health College in the Western Region has been assured of improved infrastructure in the coming years to help address challenges faced by students and teachers alike.

The Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu who visited the school for the first time since the school was established recently announced this and added that the Ministry of Health is working assiduously to build a new three-storey classroom block for the school.



H said, barring any last minutes problem, the contractor will be on site by July ending to start the project.

The Minister who praised the Member of Parliament for the area who also doubles as a deputy Minister for Health, Gyedu Kingsley Aboagye, for his resolve in ensuring the school was established also commended the chiefs and the entire community for their contributions towards a successful start of the school.



He expressed delight about the facilities that have been used to start the school, but noted that all other challenges brought identified by the principal of the school will be taken on board for necessary actions.

Mr. Agyeman Manu was particularly delighted that the school has enough land to accommodate any infrastructure expansion.

He challenged the students to leave the school with 100 percent pass as pioneers to serve as motivation for others who will come after them.



Challenges

The Acting Principal of the college, Stella Oppong Sarpomaah appeal to the Minister to help them address their challenges. Among them include;
• Inadequate hostel facilities for the students, adding it will get worse in September when new admissions are made
• Need school bus to improve movement of students particularly conveying them to other hospitals for practical.
• Inadequate academic and administrative staff
• Lack of staff accommodation among others

Achievements
• The Principal commended Sefwi Rural Bank for drilling borehole for the school, hence they have water running regularly.
• The school is also being supported with 10-seater toilet facility
• The school has equipped demonstration room with library
• GIFEC has also provided the school with 20 computers and internet facility to boost teaching and learning.



The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Alfred Amoah on his part acknowledged the role of the MP who went against all odds to help establish the school despite a ban on the establishment of new nursing schools.

The MCE also added his voice to the appeals made by the acting Principal and believed that if not all their needs will be provided, a lot of them should be tackled for the good of the school and the students.
