Lower Manya Krobo: Odumase Krobo celebrates Ngmayem festival

The people of Manya krobo celebrate the Ngmayem festival annually in commemoration of plentiful harvest of (Ngma) millet.it is when the Krobo people give thanks to their creator for the plentiful hervest and also ask for the coming years of abundance of ngma.
This year’s theme “A time for togetherness” is a period of socialization, reunion of families, display of culture, discussions of developmental issues, among others to bring about socio-economic transformation.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Simon Kweku Tetteh in his address explained the theme for the celebration that togetherness is a state of being close to another person or other people, adding that togetherness is a happy feeling of affection and closeness to other people, especially friend and families.
He said no one deserves to live in fear and they must do everything that can eradicate that from this world, adding that, the people must educate themselves on the prevalent injustice and listen to what minority communities say about their experiences. He stated that, the quality of lives depends to a great extent on the state of being able to take part in and benefit from the culture and the need to maintain a connection with unique character of the historic and natural environment with the language, music, arts and literature which is fundamental for unity by providing a sense of who they are.
Mr. Tetteh continued by stating that “economic growth will take more than investment, import of the latest technology, and even more than any dependable political and economic institutions. A constellation of cultural values suited for modern business seems to be a critical ingredient for any progression”.
He further said that culture plays irreplaceable role in creating green jobs, reducing poverty, making cities more sustainable, providing safe access to water and food, preserving the natural resources such as forests, and strengthening the resilience of communities in the face of disasters. Adding that, “a free and strong cultural sector will promote other rights and values such as freedom of expression, diversity and debate about needs in society. Culture ensures unity during crisis, influences identity, debate and dialogue”.
Key personalities present were; His royal majesty, Nene Sakite II (Konor of Manya Krobo and president of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs), Boakye Agyarko who was the former Energy Minister, Neneme, Manyeme, Heads of departments, Heads of security agencies among others.
