“Gov’t alone cannot handle matters of dev’t” –Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has indicated that the responsibility for the socio-economic development of the Ghanaian people cannot be left exclusively in the hands of the government.

According to him, Traditional rulers also have a key role to play such as promoting peace amongst the people to help foster development.

President Akufo-Addo who was speaking at the grand durbar of this year’s Ngmayem festival celebration by the people Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region thus called on chiefs to chart the course of development, peace and prosperity not only in Manya Krobo but Ghana as a whole.


This year’s celebration which was under the theme: “development in unity: reviving patriotism through unification” was aimed at professing unity, resilience and strength which comes from working together towards achieving a common goal as a people.

He added that this year’s celebration should reflect the unity, resilience and strength of the people, adding that the people of Manya Krobo must seize this occasion to deepen the spirit of unity, patriotism and collaboration in order to help address the challenges confronting the area.


Against this backdrop, President Akufo-Addo further appealed to the Kornor (paramount chief) of Manya Krobo, His Royal Majesty Nene Sakitey II, to continuously protect the existing peace and unity, and also bring all hands on deck to enhance development.

“Your effort as Konor and promoting peace amongst your people is to ensure that they live in peace and unity so as to promote development in all parts of the traditional area. Unity in diversity is what is needed to ensure that all Ghanaians put their hands to the wheels of development to eradicate poverty, disease and underdevelopment.”

He also lauded the Konor for his long lasting commitment to ensure access to quality education, fight against the spread of HIV, reenergizing the institutions of chieftaincy as president of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and helping to bring peace to Manya Krobo.


On matters of Agric, the President also seized the opportunity to laud the efforts of farmers in the area and across the country for working tirelessly to feed their families and the country as a whole.

He stressed that farming is a business and profession and must be promoted like all other professions.

Touching on some development in the area, President Akufo-Addo assured that every part of Ghana will continue to benefit from the government while also highlighting some projects and programmes executed by his government in the Krobo land.


He revealed that Lower Manya Krobo has been selected together with 34 other districts to benefit from the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), a programme he added forms part of the government's broader urban development programme and decentralization agenda.

Under the programme, the district is expected to benefit from some road infrastructure.
