KWAHU WEST: Assembly makes move to ensure transparency in its finances

The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly had created a five-member committee to audit the accounts of the Assembly to ensure transparency in the financial affairs of the assembly.

This was announced by the Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Yaw Owusu- Addo at a social auditing forum organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at Kwahu Nsabah to educate the citizens on the need to demand greater transparency and accountability from duty-bearers as part of efforts to promote development.

The forum was also used to create awareness of the Whistle-Blowers Act and the implications of corruption on an individual.

The forum formed part of a three-year project supported by the European Union aimed at promoting transparency and accountability at the municipal and district level through the involvement of the grassroots and the vulnerable in the execution of development projects.

Mr. Owusu- Addo, urged the people to fulfill their obligations by paying their rates and tolls to enable the Assembly to carry out developmental projects for their benefit.

This, he added would help the Assembly raise more funds for the development of communities across the district.

Mr. Owusu- Addo entreated the people to often monitor projects executed by the Municipal Assembly to ensure quality and time-bound projects.

Mr. Francis Owusu Adjei, the Municipal Director of NCCE, charged the people to desist from participating in corrupt acts because it could expose them to trouble.

He encouraged the people to report any acts of corruption to the appropriate authorities for it to be dealt with as the law demanded.
