N JUABEN S: MCE, others inspect a blown-off VIP roofing at the Jackson Park

The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly under the Leadership of Isaac Appaw-Gyasi on Thursday, 13 th October, 2022 paid a working visit to the collapse VIP stand at the ongoing construction site at the Koforidua Jackson Park to ascertain for them the degree of damage caused by the windstorm.

The main purpose for the visit was to inspect the sadden incident which occurred on Wednesday, 12th October, 2022; between the hours of 2pm when a windstorm ripped-off the VIP stand, and injured two workers who were busily making final touches to the VIP stand.

However, the two injured workers were rushed for medical treatment at the Koforidua Regional Government Hospital and were later discharged on that very day, due to minor injuries.

The project under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) was funded by the World Bank through the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural development and solely awarded to ‘SOMAN CONSULT LTD is in its 1st phase.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Appaw-Gyase, called an emergency meeting in his office between Soman Consult and Management of the Assembly to brief management on the incident and the way forward.

The management instructed as a matter of urgency; the consultant Mr. Charles Ababio should report on the incident to the Ministry of Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development and obtain a meteorological report on the windstorm on the said day.

The consultant was also charged to obtain doctors report on the affected persons and ensure the cost of the medical bills of the injured workers.

Management also tasked the consultant to as a matter of urgency engage the services of an independent body to conduct structural integrity test and the contractor suspends’ work until designs are further reviewed by the Special Planning Committee of the Assembly and an external body.

The consultant assured the MCE and the members present of his commitment in ensuring that the problem is address as soon as possible.
